Chicks – 4 weeks old (2 are Roosters)!

The chicks are now four weeks old. It’s very obvious due to the larger comb on two chicks that they are roosters, and they “play” fight at each other.

It looks like the other three are hens.

Turns out we have a third broody hen! So, we asked for 6 more fertilized eggs. The count down is on.

Oh, and we don’t really have space for another “nursery” so we are building a new coop. So far, we were able to get a free nesting box/house which has to be fixed up and some free wire. We are clearing brush and trees to make room. Amazing that one, small broody hen is the inspiration for 6 oaks trees to be cut down, poison oak to be cleared, and the creation of defensible space from fire. We are finally moving up into the forest zone.
