Preparing hillside for retaining wall

The chickens have their zone, and they enjoyed the day eating fresh grass and relaxing outside their large coop.

Meanwhile, farmhand Will and I continued to dig out the hillside for the retaining wall.  We straightened up the wall edge and dug down into the walkway (eventually there will be wood chips).

Next weekend the goal is to dig the trench for the gravel pad and add filter fabric.  I plan to document the whole process for building a retaining wall. I learned the technique in a landscape construction class at Foothill College, and it’s exciting to apply the knowledge.
